When you are on eBay, you can find practically anything you want to buy. You might have a phobia of the internet because of rumors of scams, identity theft, and other dangerous schemes. For the most part, there are many scams, but don't be afraid because not everyone is there to harm you.
Things you would want to watch out for when buying something to see whether it is a scam or not:
- Check on other auctions of the same object to see if you are overpaying
- Ask questions regarding the auction. If that person is obviously lying or not answering at all, then it is a sign that you should not bid
- If that auction only asks for cash or money orders, it would most likely be a scam
- Check only auctions whose sellers have positive feedback, otherwise be prepared to risk a scam
- When you bid for something that you want very much, put the maximum price that you are willing to pay for. If you have a lot of free time and not afraid of the chance of losing an auction, then you could wait last minute to place the last bid. This way, you can save more money.
- DO NOT bid on two auctions for the same item because if you win, you are going have to pay for both of them and double shipping and handling. That is if you don't need another of that object.
- There is always the "BUY NOW" option that is open for auctions that does not have a bid on it yet. Reminder: This option is not available for all auctions and sellers because they would need a positive feedback of 10 or more.
